Indication*
Infections caused by susceptible anaerobic microorganisms; peri-op prophylaxis to reduce incidence of post-op bacterial infections in patients at high risk for such infections. Intestinal & extraintestinal or invasive amoebiasis including amoebic liver abscess. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in combination with fluoroquinolones.
Directions for Use*
Tab Adult Trichomoniasis 2 g as a single dose or 500 mg bid for 7 days. Vag infections including bacterial vaginosis 2 g as single dose or 500 mg bid for 7 days. Partner should be treated simultaneously. Anaerobic infections as 1st-line or substitute treatment 1-2 g/day every 6 12 hour or or 500mg every 6 hour in 2-4 divided doses. Slow IV infusion Administer over 30-60 min. Treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms Adult 500 mg every 6-8 hour. Children 20-30 mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses every 6-8 hour. Max: 4g daily. Periop prophylaxis against anaerobic infections Adult 500 mg shortly before thee procedure & 500 mg after 8 & 16 hour. Children 7.5 mg/kg as single dose shortly before the procedure. Administer 2nf dose of 7.5 mg/kg when surgery is delayed/ prolonged. Intestinal & hepatic amoebiasis Adult 500 mg every 8 hour. Children 30-40 mg/kg/day every 8 hour. PID 500 mg every 8 hour.
