Partial onset seizures Adult> 16 year Initially 1,000 mg/day (500 mg bid). Children 4 to < 16 year Initially 20 mg/kg in 2 divided doses, May be increased every 2 week by increments of 20 mg/kg. Max: 60mg/kg (30 mg/kg bid) daily, 6 month to <4 year Initially 20mg/kg in 2 divided doses, may be increased in 2 week by increments of 20 mg/kg. Max: 50 mg/kg (25 mg/kg bid) daily, 1 to <6 month Initially 14mg/kg in 2 divided doses (7 mg/kg bid). Myoclonic seizures Patient >12 year 1,000 mg/day (500 mg bid), may be increased by 1,000 mg/day every 2 week. Max: 3,000 mg daily. Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures Adult>16 year 1,000 mg/day (500 mg bid). Children 6 to < 16 year 20 mg/kg in 2 divided doses (10 mg/kg bid).

May be taken with or without food.
