200mg/5mL, 15mL Suspension
Indication*
Upper & lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections, acute otitis media, STD due to Chlamydia trachomatis & uncomplicated genital infections due to non-multiresistant Neisseria ghonorrhea. Prophylaxis against Mycobacterium avium-intracellare Complex (MAC) infection in patients with advanced HIV. Combination with ethambutol: Treatment with disseminated MAC. inj: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) & pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in patients who require initial IV therapy.
Directions for Use*
The period of dosing with regard to infection is given as follow: Adults Tablet: Treatment od Sexually Trasmitted Diseases (Caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, Haemophilus ducreyi or Susceptible Neisseria gonorrhea); 1000mg as single oral dose. Prophylaxis Against MAC Infections in Patients Infected with HIV: 1200mg once per week. For all other indications, the total dosage should be 1500mg, given as 500mg daily for 3 days. As an alternative, the same total dose can be given over 5days with 500mg given on 1 day, then 250mg daily 2-5. Vial: Treatment of Community-Acquired Pneumonia: Recommended Dose: 500mg orally as single daily dose to complete a 7-10 day course of therapy. The timing of the conversion to oral therapy should be done at the discretion of the physician and in accordance with clinical response. Treatment of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease(Due to the Indicated Organism) Recommended Dose: 500mg IV as single daily dose for 1 or 2 days. IV therapy should be followed by Azithromycin 250mg orally as single daily dose to complete a 7-days course of therapy. The timing of the conversion to oral therapy should be done at the discretion of the physician and in accordance with clinical response. If anaerobic microorganism are suspected of contributing to the infection, antimicrobial anaerobic agent may be administered in combination with Azithromycin. Children: Tablet/Suspension: With the single exception of the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis, the total dose in children is 30mg/kg which should be given as a single daily dose of 10mg/kg daily for 3 days or as an alternative, given over 5 days with a single daily dose 10mg/kg on 1 day, then 5mg/kg on 2-5 days. For children weighting <15kg, Azithromycin suspension should be measured as closely as possible. For those weighting 15kg, Azithromycin suspension should be administered according to the guide provided in the table.
