For the treatment of the following infections due to susceptible microorganism: Acute bronchitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis with infection secondary infections in chronic respiratory tract disease, pneumonia. Urinary tract infections including pyelonephritis, cystitis, and cystourethritis. Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral). Chrolecytitis, cholangitis. Scarlet fever. Sinusitis, tonsilitis, pharyngitis, otitis media. Typhoid fever (enteric fever) including multi-drug resistant typhoid fever.

Usual dose: Adult & Child >12 year or those weighing >50 kg 400 mg once daily or 200 mg every 12 hour, children 7-12 year 200 mg once daily or 100 mg every 12 hour. Duration: Most infection: 7-14 days: infections due to Strep pyogenes: At least 10 days. Recommended dose for specific infections: Adult Uncomplicated cervical/urethral gonococcal infections 400 mg as single dose. Uncomplicated UTI 100 mg bid or 200 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Uncomplicated cystitis 200 mg every 12 hour or 400 mg once daily for 3 days. Uncomplicated acute pyelonephritis 200 mg every 12 hour or 400 mg once daily for 14 days. Typhoid fever 200 mg every 12 hour or 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days. Children Typhoid fever 12-20 mg/kg as single dose or divided into 2 equal doses every 12 hour for 7-14 days. Max: 400 mg daily. Renal impairment CrCI 20-40 mL/min 75% of standard dose (ie, 300 mg daily at usual dosing interval), <20 mL/min & those maintained on chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis 50% of standard dose (ie, 200 mg daily at the usual dosing interval).

Maybe taken with or without food: May be given without regard meals.
